WELCOME HOME NANA AND YURI
10.01.2025
We woke up this morning to find everything outside was covered with snow. I quickly got dressed, put my shoes on, and with camera at the ready, went outside to do a video of the snowfall.
It was freezing outside and even though I was wearing warm clothes I still felt the chill. Then discovered my phone had not charged, so I got 2 seconds of film before it died. Not a great start to the day. I went back inside and charged my phone,, hoping I would have enough charge to film the snow before it melted.

Thankfully I did manage to get the video done, as snow was still falling lightly when I ventured outside, 20 minutes after my first attempt at filming, As you can see from the film the cars are not under shelter, so we had to clean them before we headed off to do the shopping for a special dinner with Nana and Yuri.
Nana had requested that tonight’s dinner be Temaki Zushi, a fun and simple way to enjoy sushi at home. The name is quite literal, with “te” meaning hand and “maki” meaning roll, translating to “hand roll sushi.”
To get the best sashimi to go with Temaki Zushi, Youko suggested we should try 2 supermarkets known to have the freshest fish.
On the plate for tonight’s dinner, you will see: Tuna, Yellowtail Kingfish, Salmon, Calamari, Octopus, as well as cucumber, pickled daikon (radish) and Youko’s homemade egg roll with soy sauce, We then wrap our chosen ingredients in nori (pressed seaweed sheets) which are also on the table.
It was a feast the whole family thoroughly enjoyed, including me. Yuri and I fight for Youko’s egg roll as it is sensational, with my other favourites being the salmon and Yellowtail kingfish. The octopus is not cooked and everybody but me likes it. Uncooked tako (octopus) is like chewing on a gumboot. It’s the only thing on the table that doesn’t entice me to eat it.
I am saddled with doing the dishes again tonight which gives me great pleasure as the rest of the family are playing Hues and Cues. Five players all with the same Japanese code of colours versus a single Aussie who mistakenly says the ‘go’ colour on a traffic light is green not blue!
Regardless of it’s complexity, the game is a big success with the family, as they sit playing Hues and Cues at the dining table. Although playing the game intensely, they also find time ro watch a japanese comedy show which often shows a comedian making an idiot of themselves for the sake of a laugh, or being asked to do some utterly ridiculous stunt.
Have a look at Nakaoka, the comedian who is renowned for doing ridiculous stunts. We have given you the link to doing 2 no, 3 of the tasks he has been asked to do. In the second one, if you are not sure, he is trying to do squats with both feet on two different swings in sub zero temperature. The other two are pretty self explanatory, and quirkily hilarious.
The TV show is called (Itte Q!). It is a popular Japanese variety TV show that airs on the NTV network. The title translates to “Go to the Ends of the Earth!” and the show features celebrities traveling to remote or unusual destinations around the world. The hosts and guests participate in various challenges, comedic skits, and cultural experiences, often with a humorous twist. It’s known for its entertaining and light-hearted approach to exploring global locations. The show blends adventure, comedy, and cultural exploration, making it a fun and engaging watch for viewers.
Japan still holds a reputation as having one of the craziest shows in the world. ENJOY!!
